Kensington is a great suburb and we are proud of it. Many people comment on the village-like atmosphere. The Macaulay Road – Bellair Street shopping precinct is a hive of activity and we suggest you support local businesses – if you don’t use it, you lose it.   Our café strip is famous, and occasionally, we even see tourist buses come through!

Town Hall

Our town hall is a beautiful old building and an important civic space for the local community. The facility offers free wi-fi access, comfortable spaces to relax and a variety of activities and programs. Come in and check out the noticeboard to see what’s coming up.

Schools

Our suburb is well serviced with both public and private schools and other educational services both locally and in neighbouring suburbs. The Good Schools Guide lists schools in or near Kensington and offers the ability to compare and shortlist them to help you find the desired school.

Kensington Open Spaces,
Local Parks, Gardens

Our open spaces are diverse in size and character, ranging from classic gardens to unique bushland landscape and wetlands habitat, and smaller suburban reserves. Facilities in our parks include sports grounds, BBQs, toilets and playgrounds. Many parks are also the setting for public artworks, venues and unique features such as JJ Holland Park, Maribyrnong River Bank Reserve and Women’s Peace Garden.

Our role is to serve the Victorian community and uphold the law to promote a safe, secure and orderly society. Our Police Assistance Line and online reporting service provides you with the ability to call us 24 hours a day, seven days a week to report lost property or property related crime such as a theft or property damage, or to make general police enquiries. Our Police Community Liaison Officer can also be contacted on (03 8379 0800).

Services

Offers a bulk billing medical practice, community nurses, counselling and culturally specific community development workers, allied health and youth services.

Kensington Community
Recreation Centre

The Centre is a modern sports and recreation venue with the following facilities: modern indoor pool, a gym and health club, an indoor sports hall for soccer, netball, basketball and volleyball. The health club has recently offered pilates, yoga, boxfit, body attack, swim squad and aqua aerobics. The Centre administers the JJ Holland Skate Park and the Kensington Banks tennis courts, as well as offering an auditorium for hire.

Neighbourhood House

Offers courses and programs and provides a venue for various groups. Recent courses have included languages, yoga, cooking and computer classes. Groups have included a weekly social group, a book group, a
philosophy group and an Indochinese and Vietnamese elderly group

Citizens Centre

The Centre is a venue for many community, cultural and family activities and groups including the Kensington Senior Citizens Club, Circolo Pensionati Italiani di Kensington (Italian senior citizens group), CO.AS.IT (Italian language and cultural group) and the Elderly Greek Club of Kensington and Flemington.
