From Monday 1 February to the end of March Childers Street, Tennyson Street, Bakehouse Road and McLennan Drive will have ‘non destructive digging’; a ground surface survey will involve laying a 50-100 metre line of metal probes in JJ Holland Park, near the corner of Ormond and Childers Streets. The small metal probes will be inserted approximately 5cm into the soil at regular intervals, and will collect data by releasing a low electrical current into the soil. Apparently this method is commonly used in public spaces to test soil profile and density. The ground surface survey will not have any impact on public safety or the environment, and takes about one day to complete. There will also be some shallow drilling and traffic surveys.
