At the C190 July Panel Hearing sessions Kensington was well-represented by not only the Kensington Association and Friends of Moonee Ponds Creek but also residents from both sides of Macaulay Road. Most impressive was our facts-man who questioned population density projections.

Council, in its summary, acknowledged this and seemed to share our disgust at land owners and developers who utterly ignored population projections, just keen to get as many floors as possible onto their site. It is a great pity that so far developers appear to have refused to consider the well-formed Council plans as an opportunity to be creative and build developments as lifestyle and environmental benchmarks, not towers. Council’s amendments to planning scheme map DDO63 Arden-Macaulay Area, Kensington and North Melbourne’s design objectives were presented with changes to now include protection of the Moonee Ponds Creek from overshadowing, as well as surrounding established residential neighbourhoods, and a commitment to ensure that development provides significant amenity for building occupants without materially affect the comfort of those occupying current and future adjoining sites.
