What works?
STAGE 1 INTERSECTION WORKS – Derby Street and Ormond Street
The proposal is for works to improve local road safety and amenity at the intersection of Derby Street and Ormond Street to include:

• Widening the footpath and narrowing the road to reduce traffic speed and make it safer for pedestrians to cross

• Seven new trees and garden beds with water-saving treatment, where possible

• Upgrades to meet the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.

• Installing a new drain from Derby Street along Ormond Street

POSSIBLE FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS – Derby Street, between Kensington Road and Tennyson Street

There is an opportunity to make further improvements along the entire length of Derby Street, whih would be part of a broader streetscape design. It is sugested that it include more trees and green spaces, toprovide a shadier, more attractive street consistent with the City of Melbourne’s Urban Forest Strategy.

Possible improvements could include:
• Widening the footpath and narrow the roadway on the south-western side of Derby Street between Tennyson Street and Hampden Road
• Additional traffic calming and safer pedestrian routes (consistent with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act)
• Street trees planted in tree pits designed to use rainfall to water the trees before it discharges into the stormwater system
• Increased shading provided in the street through the additional tree planting which reduces the urban heat island effect
• Areas of public open green space, with various possible uses, including: garden beds; community gardens; seating areas; a grassed nature strip and maintain sufficient car parking to meet local demand.
Council wants our feedback

The streetscape team would particularly appreciate feedback  from local residents, property owners and businesses on our ideas for future improvements to the environment of Derby Street and the possible uses of the new public open green spaces.

Because any future improvement works in Derby Street are subject to future Council funding, our input is important.

Help enhance the amenity of Derby Street by having your say.
